Stephen Nauta’s experiences of 18 years as a missionary’s kid in the Dominican Republic (the land of cuentos),12 years working as a social worker amongst youth with troubled histories, 10 years telling stories from the pulpit of a conservative protestant church, and 8 years as a psychotherapist collaborating with clients in the rewriting of their personal histories has left him brimming with stories of the human saga. His first novel, Sitting at the Wrong Dinner Table, is one of these tales.
Stephen lives, works, and writes at Isabel’s House in Spring Lake, Michigan.
He is a licensed clinical social worker in private practice, working with individuals of all ages. He enjoys helping people mend their marriages and is dedicated to help blended families recover from divorce and start over. He graduated from Calvin Theological Seminary in 1993 with a Masters of Divinity degree. In 2003 he received a Masters of Social Work degree from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Steve is married to Janice Esh, LMSW who also works at Isabel’s House as a Clinical Social Worker. He has two wonderful grandkids who are inspiring him to write children’s books. His granddaughter has made it clear she intends to “brag up” his new book amongst her friends .
Steve grew up by the Caribbean Ocean and now enjoys the Lake Michigan waters. He has recently been introduced to paddle boarding and is in the process of learning to kite board.
